Chaturthi Shraddh

Introduction
Chaturthi Shraddha is performed on the Chaturthi Tithi of Pitru Paksha. On this Shraddha Tithi, homage is paid to ancestors who passed away on Chaturthi.

Religious Significance
This Shraddha ritual is performed with the wish for peace and salvation for ancestral souls. It is also considered necessary for the removal of Pitru Dosha (ancestral faults).

Rituals

  • Perform Tarpana after taking a holy bath.

  • Perform Pind Daan with rice.

  • Offer food to crows.

  • Offer food and donations to Brahmins.

The Shraddha ritual is mainly performed by the son or a male member of the family.

Scriptural Basis
Garuda Purana and many other Dharmashastras describe the glory of Shraddha for ancestors, which is important for happiness, peace, and prosperity in this life.
