🌞 About Gowri Panchangam

Gowri Panchangam, also spelled Gowri Panjangam, is a traditional time-division system used by South Indians, particularly in Tamil Nadu, to choose the most auspicious times for starting any important activity. It is deeply rooted in the Tamil calendar and plays a vital role in daily planning for tasks like travel, religious ceremonies, business, and personal milestones.
Unlike general panchangs, Gowri Panchangam divides both time between sunrise and time between sunset into eight segments each. These segments are governed by planetary energies that are either auspicious or inauspicious. In Tamil Gowri Panchangam, five time slots are considered good (Amridha, Labam, Sugam, Dhanam, and Uthi), while three are considered bad (Rogam, Visham, and Soram).

✨ Why Is It Called Gowri Panchangam?

The name 'Gowri' comes from Hindu mythology, where Goddess Gowri (a form of Parvati) symbolizes purity and prosperity. The system is believed to be her divine blessing for helping people pick gowri nalla neram (good Gowri time).
In Day Gowri Panchangam and Night Gowri Panchangam, each segment is believed to influence the outcome of tasks. Choosing the right gowri nalla neram is believed to improve the chances of success, especially when you align your actions with sunrise and sunset transitions.

⏰ Types of Gowri Panchangam Times

There are eight types of Gowri times in both day gowri panchangam and night gowri panchangam, classified based on their impact:

🟢 Auspicious Times (Good Gowri Panchangam)
- Amridha (Highly Auspicious): Best for marriages, religious functions, and starting anything new. Considered extremely favorable in both day and night gowri panchangam.
- Labam (Profit): Excellent for financial gains, deals, and business opportunities. A great choice if you want uthi laabam (growth and success).
- Sugam (Comfort): Ideal for health-related activities, travel, and comfort-oriented work.
- Dhanam (Wealth): Best suited for property dealings, wealth accumulation, and banking tasks.
- Uthi (Neutral to Auspicious): Good for routine work but may not be best for significant life events. Still part of the good gowri panchangam list.

🟠 Inauspicious Times (Bad Gowri Panchangam)
- Rogam (Illness): Brings health challenges and discomfort. Should be avoided for medical or physical tasks.
- Visham (Obstacles): Represents confusion, barriers, and failures. Not recommended for any crucial work.
- Soram (Loss): May result in misfortune or regret. Avoid during big investments or travel.

These time slots are respected throughout South India and are an integral part of daily life for people who follow Tamil Gowri Panchangam traditions. Whether it's deciding when to leave for a journey or when to start a new job, selecting the right Gowri time ensures harmony and success.
