Dvitiya Shraddh

Introduction
Dwitiya Shraddha is the second day of Pitru Paksha, which is celebrated on the Dwitiya Tithi (second day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapada/Ashwin month. On this day, Shraddha is performed for those ancestors who passed away on a Dwitiya Tithi.

Importance and Purpose
On this day, offerings (Tarpana), Pind Daan, and food donations are made to ancestors, and prayers are offered for the peace of their souls. It is believed that performing Shraddha pleases ancestors and brings blessings upon the family.

Main Rituals and Donations

  • Tarpana: Offering water with sesame seeds, barley, and Kusha grass.

  • Pind Daan: Offering rice balls.

  • Offering food to crows.

  • Feeding Brahmins or cows.

After preparing and offering the deceased's favorite food, family members partake in it.

Religious Beliefs
According to Garuda Purana and Matsya Purana, Shraddha provides strength to ancestral souls. It is believed that if Shraddha is not performed, obstacles arise in the family.

Dwitiya Shraddha is a day to show reverence to ancestors. It is considered essential for balance in life and welfare in the family.
