The origin story of Lord Hayagriva
In ancient times, there was a terrible demon named Hayagriva, whose face was like a horse and body like a human. He performed severe penance from Mother Parvati and obtained such a boon that only a creature like him could kill him. After receiving this boon, Hayagriva became extremely arrogant and started tormenting the sages, gods and the entire creation.
The demon stole the Vedas from Brahma, due to which ignorance and darkness spread throughout the world. Without the Vedas, the existence of religion and knowledge was in danger. Then Lord Vishnu decided to take the Hayagriva avatar for the welfare of the creation.
According to a mythological story, due to the curse of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu's head was separated from his body. Then the gods brought the head of a divine horse and attached it to the body of the Lord, so that Lord Hayagriva appeared in the form of Hayagriva. After that, he fought a fierce battle with Hayagriva and finally, after killing the demon, returned the stolen Vedas to Brahma.
