Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti is observed annually on the Krishna Dashami of the Phalguna month. It honors the birth anniversary of the great reformer and founder of Arya Samaj, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati.

Early Life and Quest for Truth
He was born on 12 February 1824 in Tankara, Gujarat, and was originally named Mulshankar. Even as a child, he questioned idol worship and rituals and sought deeper spiritual truths, which eventually led him to embrace the teachings of the Vedas.

Founding of Arya Samaj
In 1875, he founded Arya Samaj with the goal of reviving Vedic values and eradicating social evils like caste discrimination, child marriage, and superstition. His slogan "Back to the Vedas" became a nationwide reformist call.

Contribution to Education and Social Reforms
He emphasized women’s education, widow remarriage, and the Gurukul education system based on moral and spiritual values. He was among the first to speak of Swarajya (self-rule), long before Gandhi.
