Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga
The eighth of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva is famous as Shri Trimbakeshwar. This divine Jyotirlinga is located at the foot of the Brahmagiri mountain and on the banks of the holy Godavari river in Nashik district of Maharashtra state. Since ancient times, this place has been considered very sacred for Shaivite devotees, yogis and pilgrims. The Trimbakeshwar temple is famous worldwide for its spiritual power, mythological importance and stunning natural beauty.
The name “Trimbakeshwar” means the three-eyed Lord Shiva. The specialty of this Jyotirlinga is that here three lingas representing the Trimurti — Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh — are installed in a single sanctum. Religious importance of Trimbakeshwar Temple
Trimbakeshwar Temple is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites of Hinduism. Since the origin of the Godavari River is also located in this area, this place has acquired special sanctity. Godavari is known as the "Dakshin Ganga". Devotees come here to perform special religious rituals like bathing, Pitru Tarpan, Kaalsarpa Dosh Nahalan, Narayana Nagbali and Mahamrityunjaya Japa.

The story of the appearance of Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga
According to the Shiva Purana, in ancient times, sage Gautam lived near the Brahmagiri mountain with his wife Ahalya. He pleased the gods by performing severe penance for years. At one time, there was a severe drought and there was a shortage of water. Gautam Rishi worshipped Varunadev for the welfare of animals and humans.
Varunadev was pleased and blessed Gautam Rishi with Akshaya Jal, due to which the entire region became green again. Many sages and people started living there. But some sages, motivated by jealousy, hatched a conspiracy to humiliate Gautam Rishi.
Through Lord Ganesha, Gautam Rishi was accused of cow slaughter. Distraught by this incident, Gautam Rishi started worshipping Lord Shiva harshly. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared with Goddess Parvati and Ganga.
Gautam Rishi prayed to Lord Shiva to bring Ganga to earth. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva established Ganga there, which later became famous as the Godavari River. After that, Lord Shiva settled there in the form of Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga.
Architecture of Trimbakeshwar Temple
Trimbakeshwar Temple is a magnificent and ancient style temple made of black stone. The current form of the temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Bajirao. The temple walls, sculptures and carvings are excellent examples of ancient Indian architecture.
The temple complex houses the Kushavarta Kund, which is considered to be the initial pilgrimage site of the Godavari River. There are also several small temples and the tombs of saints.
