I bow to Vishnu, serene in form, resting on the serpent, with a lotus at his navel, lord of the gods, support of the universe, vast as the sky, dark as a cloud and beautiful of limb; the beloved of Lakshmi, lotus-eyed, reached by yogis in meditation, remover of the fear of worldly existence and the one lord of all worlds.

Meaning & Significance

Vishnu Dhyana Mantra is a traditional Sanskrit prayer dedicated to Lord Vishnu, chanted with a devotional focus on meditative contemplation of Vishnu in his serene, all-pervading form. It gives the practitioner a clear devotional focus and can be used for daily prayer, quiet remembrance, or seated meditation. Beginners should learn the Sanskrit words carefully, pronounce each syllable clearly, and chant without hurrying. For ordinary devotional practice a modest fixed count such as 11, 21 or 108 repetitions may be chosen and kept consistent. If the mantra is used within a formal ritual or lineage practice, its method should be learned from that tradition or a qualified teacher. The practice is best understood as prayer and spiritual discipline, not as a guarantee of a particular worldly result.
