According to Devi Mahatmya, Goddess Durga assumed the terrible form of Kali to destroy the demon named Raktabij. Raktabij was blessed with such a boon that as soon as drops of his blood fell on the ground, another demon like him would be born there. During the war, when it seemed impossible to defeat him, Goddess Durga took on the form of Kali and started drinking Raktabij's blood before it fell on the ground. As a result, Raktabij came to an end and the gods were victorious. This event is considered a symbol of Goddess Kali's power and the destructive form of the demon.
Importance of Kali Jayanti
According to the Hindu calendar, Kali Jayanti is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Shravan. In some regions, it is also associated with the month of Bhadarva. On this day, devotees perform special worship, chanting and Tantra Sadhana of Mother Kali. Description of Goddess Kali's form
Goddess Kali is usually depicted standing on the battlefield where she stands with her feet on the chest of Lord Shiva. As soon as she steps on Lord Shiva, Mother Kali is shown in a state of surprise with her tongue sticking out. Her color is depicted as dark or black, which symbolizes infinite power and the mystery of the universe. Her face shows expressions of fierceness and anger. The four-armed form of Goddess Kali is considered the most popular.
She holds a blood-stained sword in one hand while the severed head of a demon is depicted in the other hand.
