Yogini Ekadashi

Introduction
Yogini Ekadashi is a sacred Hindu fasting day observed on the 11th day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Ashadha. It holds immense spiritual importance for those seeking liberation from sins and desiring spiritual progress. Fasting on this day is said to absolve one of grave sins and illnesses and grant blessings of health, prosperity, and liberation.

The Legend of Yogini Ekadashi
As per the Padma Purana, there was a gardener named Hemamali who served Lord Kubera by bringing flowers from the Mansarovar lake for worship. One day, he failed to perform his duty and returned to his wife instead. Kubera cursed him with a terrible disease and exiled him. Wandering in the forest, Hemamali met sage Markandeya, who advised him to observe Yogini Ekadashi. After observing the fast with devotion, he was freed from his disease and sin.

Why It Is Celebrated
Yogini Ekadashi is observed to cleanse oneself from sins committed knowingly or unknowingly. It is said that fasting on this day offers benefits equivalent to feeding 88,000 Brahmins. The day is especially beneficial for healing skin diseases and attaining forgiveness from Lord Vishnu.

Main Rituals and Observances
Devotees observe a day-long fast, sometimes without water (nirjala), and spend the day in prayer, reciting Vishnu Sahasranama, and engaging in bhajans. Consumption of grains and tamasic food is strictly avoided. Many visit Vishnu temples or observe the fast at home with deep spiritual discipline.

Spiritual Significance
This Ekadashi is believed to be particularly powerful for spiritual upliftment, purification of the body and soul, and progress toward moksha. It promotes discipline, repentance, and realignment with dharma.

Conclusion
Yogini Ekadashi is a powerful occasion to let go of past wrongdoings, seek divine forgiveness, and strengthen one's spiritual resolve. Observing this fast with faith can bring inner peace, physical health, and divine grace.
