Padmini Ekadashi

Introduction to the Festival:

Padmini Ekadashi is a highly auspicious fasting day dedicated to Lord Vishnu, observed during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in Adhika Maas (leap month). Adhika Maas, also known as Purushottam Maas or Malmas, is considered extremely sacred for devotion, charity, and spiritual growth.

Like Parama Ekadashi, Padmini Ekadashi does not occur every year in a fixed month. It is observed only when an extra lunar month (Adhika Maas) is added to the Hindu calendar. Due to its occurrence in this rare and holy month, Padmini Ekadashi is considered extremely powerful and spiritually rewarding.

Story of Padmini Ekadashi:

According to Hindu scriptures, the significance of Padmini Ekadashi is described in the Bhavishya Purana. It is believed that observing this Ekadashi with full devotion can grant immense blessings, prosperity, and liberation.

One popular story tells of a pious queen named Padmini, who, along with her husband, performed this sacred vrat with utmost devotion. Pleased with their dedication, Lord Vishnu blessed them with a virtuous and powerful son and fulfilled their desires. This story highlights the importance of devotion, faith, and strict observance of the Ekadashi vrat.

Why This Festival is Celebrated:

Padmini Ekadashi is observed to:

  • Seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu
  • Fulfill desires and wishes
  • Remove sins and karmic burdens
  • Attain prosperity, happiness, and success
  • Progress towards Moksha (liberation)

Since it falls in Purushottam Maas, the benefits of observing this Ekadashi are believed to be many times greater than regular Ekadashi fasts.
