Apara Ekadashi

Introduction
Apara Ekadashi is observed on the Krishna Paksha (waning phase) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha. The word “Apara” means "immense", indicating that observing this Ekadashi brings immense spiritual merit and frees one from all kinds of sins and negative karma.

Mythological Story
As per the Padma Purana, when King Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna about the significance of this Ekadashi, Krishna explained that it washes away the sins of even the most sinful individuals. A king named Mahasatvarna attained liberation by observing this Ekadashi with complete devotion.

Fasting and Rituals
Devotees wake up early, take a holy bath, and vow to fast for the entire day. Many observe a nirjala fast (without food and water), while others may take fruits or water only. Lord Vishnu is worshipped with incense, flowers, lamps, and mantras like the Vishnu Sahasranama.

Benefits of the Vrat
Observing Apara Ekadashi is said to cleanse sins such as lying, betrayal, harming others, and even more serious transgressions like killing a Brahmin. It is considered more beneficial than charity, pilgrimages, or sacrifices.

Spiritual Significance
This Ekadashi helps purify the soul and enhances one's spiritual consciousness. It offers a chance to reflect, meditate, and detach from worldly negativities, guiding one toward righteousness and inner peace.
