Introduction to the Festival:
Parama Ekadashi is a highly sacred fasting day dedicated to Lord Vishnu, observed during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in Adhika Masa (leap month). Adhika Masa, also known as Malmas or Purushottam Maas, is considered extremely auspicious for devotion and spiritual practices.
Unlike other Ekadashis, Parama Ekadashi does not occur every year on a fixed lunar month. It is observed only when an extra lunar month (Adhika Maas) is added to the Hindu calendar. Due to its occurrence in this rare and holy month, Parama Ekadashi holds special spiritual significance and is believed to grant immense पुण्य (merit) and divine blessings.
Story of Parama Ekadashi:
According to Hindu scriptures, Parama Ekadashi is associated with the glory of Purushottam Maas, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Purushottam). It is believed that during this sacred month, Lord Vishnu blesses devotees with forgiveness, prosperity, and liberation.
In ancient times, many devotees observed strict fasting and worship during Adhika Maas to seek relief from sins and karmic burdens. Parama Ekadashi became especially significant as it is considered one of the most powerful days within this already sacred month. Observing this Ekadashi with devotion is believed to cleanse past sins and bring one closer to Moksha (liberation).
Why This Festival is Celebrated:
Parama Ekadashi is observed to:
- Seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu
- Remove past sins and negative karma
- Attain spiritual growth and inner peace
- Receive prosperity, happiness, and good fortune
- Move closer to Moksha (liberation)
Since it falls in Purushottam Maas, its spiritual benefits are believed to be multiplied many times compared to regular Ekadashi fasts.
