Aja Ekadashi

Introduction to the Festival:

Aja Ekadashi is a sacred fasting day on the Krishna Paksha Ekadashi of the Bhadrapada month, observed for the worship of Lord Vishnu. Fasting on this day leads to the destruction of sins and the attainment of salvation.

Story of Aja Ekadashi:

According to legend, King Harishchandra, who lost everything for truth, was advised by Sage Gautam to observe the fast of Aja Ekadashi. He faithfully observed the fast, pleased Lord Vishnu, and regained his kingdom, wife, and son. This story illustrates the glory of devotion and truth.

This Ekadashi is celebrated for the purification of mind, action, and soul, peace for ancestors, and the path to spiritual liberation.

Main Rituals of Aja Ekadashi:

Fasting and Nirjala Vrat:
Devotees also observe a fast without water.

Vishnu Puja and Jagran:
Vishnu Sahasranama is recited, and an all-night vigil is kept.

On Dwadashi, grains and clothes are donated to the poor.
