When is Swami Vivekananda's Jayanti celebrated?
Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary is celebrated every year on January 12. This day is considered the birthday of India's great spiritual scholar and a source of inspiration for the youth, Swami Vivekananda. On this day, National Youth Day is also observed.
Life Story
Swami Vivekananda was born in 1863 in Kolkata as Narendra Nath Datta. From childhood, he was sharp-minded and full of spiritual curiosity. He met Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and attained self-realization under his guidance.
His famous speech at the Chicago Parliament of Religions in 1893, starting with “Sisters and Brothers of America...” is still recognized worldwide as a symbol of India’s spiritual pride.
