Mohini Ekadashi

Introduction
Mohini Ekadashi is a sacred Hindu observance falling on the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakha. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed through fasting, prayer, and devotion.

The Story of Mohini Avatar
According to Hindu mythology, during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), a conflict arose between gods and demons over the nectar of immortality (Amrit). To resolve the conflict, Lord Vishnu assumed the enchanting female form of Mohini and distributed the Amrit to the gods, thus securing their victory. This divine act gave the Ekadashi its name.

Significance and Benefits of the Fast
Lord Krishna told Yudhishthira that observing Mohini Ekadashi absolves one of sins from many lifetimes and grants spiritual liberation. It purifies the soul and brings inner peace and clarity.

Rituals and Observances
Devotees fast on this day, chant the Vishnu Sahasranama, read holy scriptures, light lamps, and donate food and clothes. Many also stay awake at night in devotional vigil (jagran).

Path to Liberation
Observing Mohini Ekadashi is believed to free the devotee from material attachments and lead the soul toward moksha (liberation). Remembering Lord Vishnu’s Mohini form symbolizes devotion, surrender, and divine protection.
