Mythological Story
According to legend, in Nandanvan (heavenly garden), a celestial being named Malyavan and an apsara named Pushpavati behaved inappropriately during a performance for the gods. As a result, they were cursed to be born as ghosts. However, after observing a fast on Magha Shukla Ekadashi with sincerity, they were freed from the curse. Hence, this Ekadashi came to be known as Jaya Ekadashi.
