Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Parv, commemorates the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of Sikhism. Although his historical birth date is April 15, 1469, the festival is observed on Kartik Purnima, the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik.

Guru Nanak was born in Talwandi (now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan). From childhood, he displayed signs of deep spirituality and compassion. Sikhs celebrate his birth on the auspicious Kartik Purnima, as per the traditional lunar calendar.

His philosophy was centered around “Ek Onkar” – meaning God is one. He preached equality, love, selfless service, and devotion, challenging social discrimination and caste divisions.

Guru Nanak undertook four major spiritual journeys across India, Tibet, Mecca, and Baghdad, spreading messages of peace, unity, and devotion.
