Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti

Introduction
Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary poet, philosopher, and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He was born on May 7, 1861, in Kolkata and is fondly called "Gurudev."

Early Life and Education
Born into a cultured and intellectual Brahmin family, Tagore received his early education at home and later traveled to England to study law. However, his interest gravitated towards literature, music, and arts.

Contribution to Literature and Arts
Tagore composed numerous poems, songs, stories, and dramas in Bengali. His most famous work is Gitanjali, for which he received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913, becoming the first Asian to do so.

National Anthem and Vision of Education
He is the composer of India’s national anthem “Jana Gana Mana.” He founded the Shantiniketan school, which later became Visva-Bharati University, based on creative and liberal education principles.
