Kamda Ekadashi

Introduction
Kamda Ekadashi is observed on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra. It is considered the first Ekadashi of the Hindu year and is believed to absolve sins and fulfill desires.

Mythological Story
According to legends, in the kingdom of Ratnapur, a dancer named Lalita and a singer named Lalit were in love. One day, Lalit, while singing in the royal court, forgot to praise the king due to his preoccupation with Lalita. Enraged, the king cursed him to become a demon.

Lalita, heartbroken, approached Sage Shringi, who advised her to observe Kamda Ekadashi. With devotion, she performed the fast, and her husband was freed from the curse. Since then, Kamda Ekadashi is revered as a powerful fast that grants redemption.

Spiritual Significance
Kamda Ekadashi is said to destroy all sins and fulfill all wishes. Observing this fast is especially beneficial for purification, blessings, and liberation from negative karma.

Rituals and Fasting Practices
Devotees observe a strict fast — either Nirjala (without water) or with fruits. Worship of Lord Vishnu, recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama, prayers, and night vigil with devotional singing are common.
