Hanuman Jayanti

Introduction:

Hanuman Jayanti is a sacred festival of Hindu Dharma, which is celebrated on the full moon day of the Chaitra month. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Hanuman. Hanumanji is worshipped as an incarnation of Lord Shiva and a supreme devotee of Shri Ram. This festival is celebrated with the feeling of devotion, strength, and dedication.

Mythology:

According to the Puranas, Hanumanji was born in the lap of Anjana and Kesari. Queen Anjana performed penance for years, as a result of which Lord Shiva, with the cooperation of Pawan Dev, blessed her with Hanumanji. In childhood, Hanumanji mistook the sun for a fruit and swallowed it, which clearly shows his strength and divine power. During the period of the Ramayana, Hanumanji performed many astonishing deeds such as going to Lanka, bringing Sanjeevani, and setting Lanka on fire.

Main Traditions:

Devotees observe fasts and go to Hanuman temples to perform puja-archana.

Sunderkand, Hanuman Chalisa, and Ramayana are recited.

Sindoor, chola, jaggery, and besan ladoo are offered to Hanumanji.

Bhajan sandhya, night vigil, and continuous Ram dhun are also organized in many places.
