Holashtak begins

Holashtak Begins: The Unfavorable Eight Days Before Holi
Holashtak begins from the eighth day (Ashtami) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Phalguna and lasts until Holika Dahan. These eight days are considered inauspicious in Hindu tradition for starting any new or auspicious ventures.

Mythological Reference and Belief
According to scriptures, this period marks the beginning of the torment of devotee Prahlad by his father Hiranyakashipu. These eight days signify his suffering before he was saved on Holika Dahan. Hence, the period is seen as unfavorable.

Avoidance of Auspicious Activities
Weddings, housewarmings, inaugurations, or any significant beginnings are usually avoided during Holashtak. It is a time advised for spiritual focus rather than material beginnings.

Spiritual Significance
Devotees use this time for prayer, fasting, and devotion to Lord Vishnu or Narasimha. It is considered an ideal period for self-reflection and purification.

Conclusion
Holashtak is a time for inner preparation, discipline, and devotion, leading up to the celebration of good over evil during Holi.
