Introduction to Papmochani Ekadashi
Papmochani Ekadashi is observed on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Chaitra. This sacred day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is known for its power to cleanse sins and lead the soul towards liberation.
Mythological Story and Belief
As per Hindu scriptures, Sage Chyavan's son Medhavi was seduced by the celestial nymph Manigriva and lost his spiritual focus. Upon realizing his mistake, he was advised by Narad Muni to observe Papmochani Ekadashi, which freed him from all sins.
Spiritual Significance of the Ekadashi
This Ekadashi holds great importance for those seeking forgiveness for past misdeeds, spiritual purification, and inner peace. It symbolizes victory over lust, attachment, and ignorance.
Rituals and Fasting Observance
Devotees observe a strict fast – either without water (nirjala) or on fruits and milk (phalahaari). They chant Vishnu Sahasranama, stay awake at night in prayer, and participate in devotional activities at temples.
Path to Purification and Moksha
Papmochani Ekadashi is considered spiritually powerful, helping devotees attain peace, remove fear and guilt, and ultimately progress toward Moksha (liberation).
