Who at one time was the greatest in heaven? There was a debate among the nine planets on the question of '. The fight got so intense that it turned into a fight. For the decision, all the gods approached Devraj Indra and said - 'O Devraj! You have to decide who is the greatest among us?When Indra heard the question of the gods, he was perplexed.
'I can't answer this question. We all go to King Vikramaditya in the city of Ujjain in the earth. All the planets (Gods) including Devraj Indra reached Ujjain city. On reaching the palace, when the gods asked them their question, King Vikramaditya was also disturbed for a while because all the gods were great because of their respective powers. Calling anyone small or big could cause great harm by the fury of their anger.
Suddenly, King Vikramaditya came up with a solution and made nine asanas of different metals - gold, silver, bronze, copper, lead, lead, zinc, mica and iron. Placing all the seats behind each other according to the properties of the metals, they asked the gods to sit on their respective thrones.
After the deities were seated, King Vikramaditya said, 'Your decision has been made. The one who sits on the throne first is the greatest.Hearing King Vikramaditya's decision, Shani Devta, angry at finding himself small due to sitting on the back seat, said - 'King Vikramaditya! You have insulted me by making me sit at the back. You don't know my powers. I will destroy you.'Saturn said,' ' The sun stays in one sign for one month, the moon for two and a half days, Mars for one and a half months, Mercury and Venus for one month, Jupiter for thirteen months, but I stay in any sign for seven and a half years.' 'I have afflicted the great gods with my fury.
Rama had to go and live in the forest because of Sati and Ravana had to die in the war because of Sati. King! You can't escape my wrath now.'After this, the gods of the other planets went away with joy, but Shanidev left with great anger. King Vikramaditya continued to do justice as before. All the men and women in his kingdom were living very happily. Several days passed in this manner. On the other hand, Shani Dev did not forget his insult.
In order to take revenge from Vikramaditya, one day Shanidev took the form of a horse trader and reached Ujjayini city with many horses. When King Vikramaditya heard of the arrival of a horse trader in the kingdom, he sent his horseman to buy some horses. The horses were very expensive. When Ashwapala returned and told about this, King Vikramaditya himself came and preferred a beautiful and powerful horse. When the king rode on that horse to see the movement of the horse, the horse ran at lightning speed.
The galloping horse took the king to a distant forest and then dropped the king there and disappeared somewhere in the forest. The king wandered into the forest to return to his city. But they couldn't go back. The king was miserably hungry. After much wandering, he found a shepherd.
The king asked for water. After drinking the water, the king gave his ring to the shepherd. Then he asked him the way, and he went out of the forest to a nearby town. The king rested for a while in the shop of a merchant. He spoke to the king, and the king told him that I had come from Ujjain. Due to the king sitting at the shop for some time, Sethji got a lot of sales.
Seth considered the king very lucky and gladly took him to his house for a meal. A gold chain was found hanging in the house. Leaving the king in that room, Seth went out for some time.
Then something amazing happened. At the sight of the king, the girl swallowed the gold necklace. When the king asked Vikramaditya about the defeat, he told him that the king had swallowed the defeat at his sight. On this the king got angry and ordered to cut the hands and legs of Vikramaditya for the crime of stealing. King Vikramaditya's hands and feet were cut off and left on the streets of the city.
A few days later, an oilman picked her up, took her to his house and sat her on his lap. The king kept giving voice to the bulls. In this way the bull of Teli kept running and the king kept getting food. The rainy season started after the full moon of Shani.
King Vikramaditya was singing Megh Malhar one night when the princess Mohini, the daughter of the king of the city, passed by Teli's house on a chariot. When she heard Megh Malhar, she liked it very much and sent the maid and asked her to call the singer. The maid returned and told the princess all about the crippled king. The princess was very much fascinated by her Megh Malhar. So, despite knowing everything, she decided to marry the crippled king.
When the princess told this to her parents, they were surprised. The queen explained to Mohini, 'Daughter! Your destiny is written to be the queen of a king. Then why are you marrying the cripple and axing your own feet? The princess didn't give up. To fulfill his insistence, he gave up eating and decided to give up his life.
Finally, the king and queen were forced to marry the princess to the crippled Vikramaditya. After the marriage, Raja Vikramaditya and Princess Teli started living in the house. That night, in a dream, Shanidev said to the king, 'You have seen my anger. I have punished you for your insults. The king asked Shanidev to forgive him and prayed - 'O Shanidev, do not give as much grief as you have given me to anyone else.'Shanidev thought of something and said -' 'King.' 'I accept your prayers. Whoever worships Me, both men and women, observes fast on Saturdays and listens to My Vrat Katha, My mercy will remain on him. When King Vikramaditya woke up in the morning, the king was very happy to see his hands and feet. He bowed to Shani Dev with all his heart. The princess was also surprised to see the king's hands and feet intact. Then king Vikramaditya introduced himself and narrated the whole story of Shanidev 's anger.
When Seth came to know of this, he ran to Teli's house and fell at the king's feet and begged for forgiveness. The king forgave him because it was all because of Shanidev's anger. Seth took the king to his house and gave him food. An amazing thing happened while we were eating. At the sight of everyone, the girl waved her hand. Sethji also married his daughter to the king and sent her away with much gold, jewellery and money.
When King Vikramaditya reached Ujjain with Princess Mohini and Seth 's daughter then the people of the city welcomed him with joy. The next day, King Vikramaditya announced throughout the kingdom that Shanidev was the greatest of all gods. Every man and woman should observe a fast on Saturdays and listen to the Vrat Katha.
Shanidev was very pleased with the announcement of King Vikramaditya. By observing the fast of Saturday and listening to the Vrat Katha, the wishes of all the people began to be fulfilled by the grace of Shanidev. Everyone was happy.
