Monday
Once upon a time there lived a merchant in a certain town. He was very unhappy as there were no children in the family. To get a child, he used to fast every Monday and go to the Shiva temple with full devotion and worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. One day, seeing his devotion, Goddess Parvati was pleased and requested Lord Shiva to fulfill the wish of the moneylender. On the request of Parvati ji, Lord Shiva said that 'O Parvati, every creature in this world gets the fruits of its deeds and whatever is in its destiny has to be enjoyed' but Parvati ji expressed her desire to fulfill the desire of the moneylender after seeing his devotion. On the request of Mother Parvati, Lord Shiva gave a boon of getting a son to the moneylender, but he told that this child will live for 12 years only.
The moneylender was listening to the conversation of Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva, so he was neither happy nor sad about it. He continued to worship Shiva as before. After some time the wife of the moneylender gave birth to a son. When the boy was eleven years old, he was sent to Kashi to study. The moneylender called the uncle of the son and gave him a lot of money and said that you take this child to get Kashi Vidya. You go on your way to perform yajna and offer food to the brahmins. In the same way, both maternal uncles and nephews went out to the city of Kashi to perform a yagna and give alms to the Brahmins. During this time a city fell in the night where the daughter of the king of the city was to be married, but the prince to whom she was to be married was blind from one eye. The prince 's father, in order to conceal his son' s deafness, thought why he should not make the moneylender 's son a bridegroom and marry the princess. After the wedding, I will send her off with money and take the princess to my city. The boy was dressed as a groom and given in marriage to the princess.
The son of a moneylender was honest. He did not like this thing, so he took the opportunity and wrote on the princess's scarf, 'You are married to me, but the prince with whom you will be sent is deaf with one eye. I am going to study Kashi. When the princess read what was written on the chunni, she told it to her parents. The king did not send his daughter away and the procession returned. On the other hand, the son of a moneylender and his maternal uncle reached Kashi and performed a yagna there. On the day when the boy was 12 years old, the yagna was also organized, the boy told his uncle that my health is not good. Mama told me to go inside and rest. According to Shiva's boon, the boy died soon after. Her mother started wailing on seeing her daughter's body. Incidentally, at the same time, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were going from there. Parvati Mata said to Bholenath - Swami, I am not able to bear the sound of his cry, you must remove the suffering of this person.
When Shiva went near the dead child, he said that this is the son of the same moneylender, whom I had given a boon of 12 years of age, now his age has been completed, but Mother Parvati, overwhelmed with motherly feeling, said that O Mahadev, please give this child more life, otherwise in its separation, his parents will also die. On the repeated request of Mother Parvati, Lord Shiva gave the boy the boon of being alive. By the grace of Lord Shiva, the boy survived. After completing his education, the boy went back to his village with his mother. The two walked to the same town where she had been married. He also organised a yagna in that city. The boy's father-in-law recognized him and took him to the palace, cared for him, and sent his daughter away.
Here the moneylender and his wife were starving and waiting for their son. He had vowed that if he got the news of his son's death, he would also give up his life, but he was very happy to get the news of his son's survival. On the same night, Lord Shiva came in the dream of the moneylender and said - O superior, I have granted long life to your son by being pleased with your fasting on Monday and listening to the Vrat Katha. Similarly, whoever fasts on Monday or listens to the story and reads it, all his sorrows are removed and all his wishes are fulfilled.
