There was a king named Kirtivirya. The king had a hundred wives, none of whom was fit to rule. He then respectfully called the Pandits and offered sacrifices for the attainment of a son, but all failed. Just as a miserable man finds the victim dull, so the king began to feel miserable without his own son. In the end, the achievement will be achieved through Raja Tap. Thinking this, he went to the forest to perform penance. Her wife (Harishchandra's daughter-Pramda) also abandoned her ornaments and walked on Gandhamadan mountain with her husband. At that place, both of them practiced asceticism for ten thousand years. But even though the achievement was not achieved, only bones remained in the king's body.
Seeing this, Pramada asked Mahasati Ansuyaji with humility: What is the reason for this? ” Hearing this, Ansuyaji said: “There are two Ekadashis in the extra month which comes after thirty six months. The name of the Ekadashi of Shukal Paksha is 'Padmini' and the name of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha is 'Parma'. By fasting and waking up in it, God will give you a certain son. ”
After that, Ansuyaji performed the vow ceremony. The queen observed Ekadashi fast and night vigil as per the ritual prescribed by Ansuyaji. By doing so, Shri Vishnu was very happy about it. And asked for a blessing. The queen said: 'Give us the blessing of having a son!'
Listening to Pramda's promise, Shri Vishnu said: “O Pramda! Adhik Mas is very dear to me. Ekadashi Tithi is also my favorite. He has performed this Ekadashi fast and awakening ceremoniously. So I am very happy for you. ” Thus says Shri Vishnu Rajan. Said; “O Rajendra! You want a blessing according to your own will, because your wife has made me happy. ! ”
Hearing the sweet voice of God, the king said: “Oh God! You give me the best, the most revered by all and the invincible best son by God, demons, human beings etc. besides you ”said Shri Vishnu Tathastu and disappeared. After that the king and queen returned to their kingdom and the son of Kartaviya who was born there was invincible. It was he who imprisoned Ravana. All this was the influence of Padmini Ekadashi.
